As I am spending a few months this year traveling, I got to witness some of the finest dances around the world such as Flamenco in spain, belly dance in Dubai, Kathakali in Kerala, Bharatnatyam in Tamil nadu and of course Kuchipudi, my favorite dance.
I got the opportunity to watch a live kathakali dance performance in Kerala. It was beautiful to say the least. Kathakali is one of the classical dances of India. It is distinguished by colorful make-up, costumes and face art.
I have been attending workshops of Pasumarthi garu for the last five years during his US visits every summer. I am fortunate to do it this year too and learn Kailasa giri dance item from him. The choreography is excellent and the dance requires lot of stamina and practice. Below is photo with my Guru….
Rachana participated in the Silicon Andhra All America 608th Annamayya Jayanthi Utsavam dance competition and won second prize. She danced for Annamacharya Keerthana Shodasa Kalanidhiki choreographed by her Guru Smt. Madhuri Kishore.
